LiFE Frameworks: Student Engagement

An hour with the University of Leicester Environment Team and Student Union Sabbatical Officers as they share their ideas and experiences of giving power back to students. 2015/16 was the pilot year for two of their new schemes: The SEED Fund (Sustainable Enterprise and Environmental Development) and SSWG (Student Sustainability Working Group). Together, they’re transforming the way their students approach sustainability through politics and projects.

The University of Leicester has been shortlisted for the 2016 Green Gown Awards in the Enterprise and Employability category and received Green Impact Gold in their Student’s Union for their work promoting sustainability beyond activists and geographers.

Speakers:
> Sarah Roberts, Sustainable Projects Officer, University of Leicester Environment Team
Working as the Sustainable Projects Officer part-time after a previous year as the Communication and Events Intern. Works closely with staff, manages a range of projects (specialising in biodiversity) and support events and programmes run by the team.

Sandra LeeActing Sustainability ManagerUniversity of Leicester Environment Team
Manages the Environment Team and writes key strategies and policies on sustainability for the University. Line manages interns and officers, as well as fulfilling travel officer duties.

> Alex Mitchell, Education Officer, University of Leicester Students’ Union
Representative for students to enhance their learning and experiences of University life. He communicates with academic representatives and ensures all departments and the Union are aware of needs, issues and feedback.

> Daniel Schofield, Activities Officer, University of Leicester Students’ Union
Daniel's role is to look after everything students do in their spare time! From student groups to Union Council, he helps societies achieve ambitious events and projects. Environmental issues are his particular interest and he'll take the lead on green projects at the Students’ Union.
