Schneider Electric has been awarded a £2 million contract to improve security at the University of West of England (UWE) in Bristol. The company is integrating security measures into the existing building management system to create a converged system, working in partnership with Hewlett Packard, the largest IT company in the world and a global market leader in technology solutions.

With four campuses in and around Bristol, UWE is a modern, growing university, with around 30,000 students and 3,000 staff. It is the largest provider of higher education in the South West of England, and teaches students from all parts of the UK as well as international students from over 140 countries worldwide.

Like all universities today UWE faces security issues, which have increased recently as the campus has been extended. Having a safe environment in which to learn and live can enhance the student experience, and security measures can help staff to monitor students’ movements around campus and to protect property.
