Over the years, the definition of “sustainability” has adapted and evolved, and now often means many things to different people. Some see it as having a focus on environmental impacts, some social impacts and others economic impacts, and those that live, eat and breathe sustainability, a combination of all three. To the majority of businesses, aspects of sustainability are channelled through a requirement to comply with national or international regulations or obligations, most commonly those related to climate change. Sustainability is seen as an opportunity by some and a burden by others, however many accept that it is here to stay.
