Biomass Boiler Workshop and Tour
20th Apr 2016 09:30 – 16:00
Free event
Cranfield University is celebrating a successful heating season operating its new biomass boiler. To feedback on our experience we will be hosting an event with a workshop and tour. Attendees will have a chance to learn more about this project with presentations from Cranfield staff, Flogas Renewables the supplier and installer of the boiler, and LC Energy who provide the fuel. There will be a chance to see the Compte boiler in operation and also view a delivery of wood chip to the top unloader fuel store. It will also be the perfect opportunity to network.
About Cranfields' Biomass Boiler
The new Biomass Boiler was delivered to Cranfield campus at the beginning of November 2014. The boiler, which is exclusively fueled by woodchip, has a 960 kW thermal output and was manufactured by Compte in France. Following successful tests in the spring of 2015, the boiler is now coming to the end of its first full season of operation.
The boiler will contribute significantly to the delivery of the carbon reduction target in the University's Carbon Management Plan. It has been funded with the aid of a HEFCE loan through the Revolving Green Fund. Apart from helping to heat the campus the new boiler and boiler room will be available to support teaching and also research on campus. Cranfield University is working with The Forest of Marston Value to encourage local production of wood fuel to help develop more tree planting.
