Education for Sustainability in Higher Education Conference: Achievements and Prospects

Keynote speakers: Dr Jane Davidson (University of Wales, Trinity St David) and Professor Stephen Sterling (Plymouth University)
This coming January sees the end of the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), the ten-year anniversary of HEFCE’s influential policy document Sustainable Development in Higher Education, and marks ten years since the Centre for Sustainable Futures (CSF) was established here at Plymouth University, with the ambitious goal to embed sustainability across university policy and practice, particularly in teaching and learning. This conference will bring together, showcase, and celebrate achievements in sustainability-related teaching and learning, and will explore the following themes:
• ESD Pedagogy: Criticality, Creativity and Collaboration
• Innovative Learning Spaces for Sustainability Education
• Towards the Sustainable University

Hosted by Plymouth University at the National Marine Aquarium

As part of our celebration of education for sustainability, we are delighted to host a pre-conference event, open to all delegates attending the conference taking place on the following day (as per information above), and to members of the public. Join us in the beautiful surroundings of the UK’s largest Aquarium to enjoy an informal evening of drinks, canapés, and networking with academics and practitioners in the sustainability field. We will be joined by Tim Mac Macartney (writer, author and founder of Embercombe), who will be giving the presentation, A Wind Blowing – experiments in learning well.
