Greening Education 2013

1st May 2013 16:21

Govtoday in Association with The Carbon Trust and Solar Schools is proud to present our 3rd Annual National Greening Education Conference and Exhibition: The foundations of a sustainable future, to be held on Wednesday 1st May 2013.

The Government has identified its top priority as growth, reinforcing its ‘Greenest ever Government’ commitment by pledging to focus on sustainable growth that is both balanced and shared.

The Coalition Government’s Mainstreaming Sustainable Development vision reaffirmed this commitment, with a goal of:

“developing real and measurable indicators to monitor sustainability across government and report results publicly”

To drive the agenda forward, Government has initiated a series of reviews, placing the UK on a path to strong, sustainable and balanced growth. The long term economic growth of the nation relies on the protection and enhancement of environmental resources and paying due regard to social needs. As part of this commitment to enhancing wellbeing, the Government will measure progress as a country, not just by how the economy is growing, but by how lives are improving.

With the Sustainable Growth Agenda taking such a high priority, the Education Sectors have been placed in the unique position of playing a leading role in the development of change, embedding sustainability within the heart of education and implementing the sustainable skills required for the transition to a low carbon economy.

The foundations of a sustainable future will examine the crucial role to be played by the education sector, through the greening of schools and initialisation of sustainable thinking, as well as the pivotal roles that both colleges and universities play in both the reduction of carbon emissions per institution and the creation of future leaders for a low carbon economy.
