Launch of the Climate Commission for UK Higher and Further Education Leaders

13th Nov 2019 14:15 – 17:00

This is an invitation-only event.

Association of Colleges, EAUC, GuildHE and Universities UK are partnering to establish a Climate Commission for UK Higher and Further Education Leaders.

All UK universities and colleges Vice Chancellors or Principals have been invited to establish the Council at the launch event on 13th November 2019 at Ravensbourne University London. Sector agencies have been invited to attend as Expert Witnesses and Government bodies have been invited to attend as Observers.

It is important that students have a strong and equal voice in the Climate Commission structure and process. We are inviting student unions which have developed strong climate action initiatives and have an interest in sustainability to join the Climate Commission launch.

In addition to this we strongly encourage Vice Chancellors and Principals to consider inviting the Student Union President or similar from their institution to join you at the launch. Climate Commissioners from AoC, EAUC, GuildHE and Universities UK have been identified and are keen to ensure that student representation is hard-wired into the Climate Commission to ensure co-creation, accountability and an action oriented approach.

This is particularly relevant as sustainability professionals will input into the Climate Commission through the Climate Emergency Framework and Think Tank work that EAUC is already undertaking on behalf of the sector, having members at the forefront of it. We are and will continue to work closely with EAUC institution representatives to ensure our members are at the very heart of the Climate Commission and have the necessary information and resources available to them.
