London Design Festival

20th Sep – 23rd Sep 2010 00:00

The London Design Festival this year has as its theme 'Designing a low carbon infrastructure for London' which will run from the 20th to the 23rd of September 2010. The aim is to showcase the latest cutting edge technology that has been developed and implemented to mitigate the effects of fossil fuel usage and dependence in transport and buildings not just in London but in any large city in the UK. In addition we have a day dedicated to Innovation, which includes a talk by serial entrepreneur Richard Farleigh followed by the final of our own Innovation Hothouse. This will be judged by a group of venture capitalists and business angels who will be looking to invest in the student projects being presented. Some of you may have already been involved in the Innovation Hothouse regional events which took place throughout the UK last month and will know the quality of entries that we received.

The finale of our programme will be our Inaugural Engineering Design lecture given by Keith Clarke, CEO of Atkins. Keith’s recent Brunel lecture made very clear the case that achieving a low carbon society requires a new industrial revolution; this augurs for a fascinating lecture and Q&A!

All events will be held in the public areas of our building at 3 Carlton House Terrace, London SW1. Where tickets are required these are free and available from [email protected].

We hope there is something to interest you in our programme and look forward to welcoming you at one or other of the events in September. I would also be grateful if you could pass on the details to any of your colleagues or contacts who you feel would be interested in any of the events we are staging.
