National Energy and Power 2012 Conference and Exhibition, Meeting the Energy Demand

18th Sep 2012 15:03

The Annual Energy Statement, delivered to Parliament on 23rd November 2011, outlined the progress Government has made over the last twelve months, as well as the policies currently in place. The statement also highlighted the impacts of policy on energy prices and bills.

Furthermore, the Department of Energy and Climate Change clearly outlined the crucial importance of the reduction of energy usage in homes, and introduced a number of initiatives to assist this goal:

• the Green Deal – helping to cut energy consumption, providing upfront finance for insulation measures, paid for through the energy savings;
• energy Company Obligation – to run alongside the Green Deal, a cost-effective subsidy to help the fuel poor and those with hard-to-insulate homes; and
• a package of measures for energy intensive industries, whose international competitiveness will be put at most risk by Government policies on the cost of electricity.

Meeting the Energy Demand will examine Government policy and the direction that the UK as a nation must take to ensure a secure and stable energy supply, whilst asking how we can create a variable energy mix that incorporates the latest technology to guarantee demand will be met.
