2nd Jun – 8th Jun 2025 09:00 – 17:30

A global dialogue on climate change and human rights
2–8 June 2025

Climate change is a human rights crisis.

Join the University of Oxford, UN Human Rights, the International Universities Climate Alliance, and universities around the world for a global summit exploring human rights impacts, obligations, and responses to the climate crisis. The cornerstone event is a 24-hour Global Plenary (4 & 5 June), co-delivered by co-hosts at regional hubs and broadcast across time zones on our livestream. The hybrid hub model aims to increase access to the global summit whilst decreasing its environmental impact.

Speakers include United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk, COP26 President Rt Hon Lord Alok Sharma, Founder of Rise up Movement Vanessa Nakate, Doughnut Economics Action Lab Co-Founder Kate Raworth, Professor of International Environmental Law Lavanya Rajamani, and UN Special Rapporteur on Climate & Human Rights Prof Elisa Morgera. The global programme includes sessions on law, health, Indigenous perspectives, just transition, youth, climate finance, and much more.

An exciting Oxford Local Programme of events themed around climate justice will run 2 - 8 June, including a Museum Late Night featuring climatologist Dr Friederike Otto and filmmaker Dr Itandehui Jansen, and a concert from global music star Ellie Goulding.
