Does urban food planning mean a food-secure Britain?

This FREE workshop will explore the concept of Continuous Productive Urban Landscapes (see https://www.foodurbanism.org/cpuls-continuous-productive-urban-landscapes/) how urban agriculture can contribute to more desirable cities and help secure a more food secure Britain. Sessions will be highly interactive and maximise networking and discussion opportunities.

Programme:

09.45h – 10.15h coffee/tea, registration and informal tours of the Rural Regeneration Centre - RRC (a state-of-the-art Passiv Haus design). Minibus shuttling from Tonbridge station to RRC

10.15h Welcome and introductions – setting the scene

10.30h ‘CPULs – Continuous Productive Urban Landscapes.’ Andre Viljoen, University of Brighton and Bohn & Viljoen Architects

11.00h Discussion

11.15h Coffee and breakout sessions – analysing CPULs

12.00h Plenary discussion session – key findings

12.30h Networking lunch – please bring your own creations as a
contribution to a cold buffet. Crockery & cutlery provided (no disposables!)

13.30h ‘How CPULs can give us a food secure Britain’

14.15h Planned break-out sessions:
 Case study 1: demonstrating the use of Google Earth to analyse the
food production potential of sites, chosen by participants
 Case study 2: top-down v. bottom-up: what is best for food security?
 Case study 3: how can each of us push the urban food agenda
ahead in our own professions?

14.45h Plenary – each Case Study to report – followed by a general discussion and the final Q: Does urban food planning mean a food-secure Britain?

15.30h  Tea and final discussion – concluding points

16.00h Conference closes. Shuttle service to Tonbridge station
