Summary
To enable the change to sustainable living, we need to understand some simple principles that make the necessary choices more appealing. Currently, most people are unaware of the forces that control their decisions for living. To understand sustainable living means to go beyond natural science and engineering fixes and plumb the core of human worldviews and human culture itself. The sustainable techno-fix will undoubtedly be part of the sustainable future. But, if we are to become truly sustainable, the principles we need to fully recognise and understand are primarily derived from the overlapping interfaces of ecological, socio-cultural, psychological, and economic perspectives.
Richard R. Jurin has a British educational background in Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, and Biochemistry. He is currently an Environmental Studies Professor at the University of Northern Colorado. He has authored many peer reviewed publications, as well as critically acclaimed textbooks, including The Principles of Sustainable Living.
