INVITATION TO UNIVERSITIES OF TRANSITION DEVELOPMENT DAY

What is the development day about?
At the Transition Network Annual Conference and Strategy Day this year there was a lot of interest in how the transition model could be applied to higher education. The development day provides an opportunity to take some of these ideas forward with a view to developing a funding proposal to carry out a full scoping study and to attract base funding for ‘demonstration’ projects.

The focus of the day will be on Universities Of Transition. In other words, educational structures which embody the main principles and purposes of the transition model and which enable learning and development of all the technical, personal and other skills related to the transition to a post peak oil, low carbon future. Examples of educational structures may be the development of a new university or a virtual university comprising a network of presently available courses covering all the main elements.

What are we hoping to achieve

Key outcomes of the development day may include:
• Development of an overarching concept for Universities OF Transition
• Development of an outline brief and bid for a follow-on Scoping Study
• Identification of funding opportunities
• Identification of existing activities and structures
• Proposals for ways to work in Partnership
• Establishment of network of interested people
• Agreed roles for individuals and participating organisations
• Agreed communications arrangements
