Lucideon wins ISO 50001 certification contract for National University Ireland Galway

23rd October 2012

Lucideon, a Gold EAUC Company Member, is pleased to announce that it has won the contract to certify National University Ireland Galway’s Energy Management System (EnMS) to ISO 50001.

The certification, which should be completed in September 2012, will cover more than 110,000m2 of buildings on the main campus including teaching, leisure and ports, conference, laboratory and cutting edge research facilities.

Energy is often one of the biggest costs that an institution has to face.

Implementing an energy management system not only helps to manage that energy but also to reduce it as well, meaning that money can be redeployed in other areas, such as increasing maintenance, investing in new energy efficient technologies & buying new equipment.

Ann-Marie Currey, Sales Consultant at Lucideon, said:

“We believe we have a unique approach to the certification process as we are not only management systems experts, we also have vast experience in the energy management arena, having verified over £7.5 billion CO2e to date.”

Noel O’Connor, Building Services Engineer & Environmental Manager at National University Galway, said:

“NUI Galway has for many years focussed on energy management, and monitoring and targeting systems. We chose to have our EnMS certified to give us and our stakeholders confidence that we are managing energy use efficiently.  We also believe that regular audits will help us to keep energy at the top of our management agenda and help us to focus on continual improvement. We also intend to disperse the data and build the lessons learned from the certification process into our fundamental design criteria for new buildings, and as an educational tool for our students; particularly those in the field of Economics, environmental and Engineering programs. NUI Galway selected Casey Technology as the consultant to help implement ISO 50001.”

Lucideon is taking part in UKAS’ pilot assessment programme for accreditation of certification of EnMS to ISO 50001, with the first wave of accreditations hopefully being awarded in June 2013.
