EAUC Staff Volunteering Day 2013

7th January 2014

Every year EAUC staff spread the joy of Christmas by getting out of the office, getting our hands dirty and mucking in with a day of volunteering. This Christmas we had the pleasure of spending this time looking after our furry, four-legged friends at the Cheltenham Animal Shelter!

It is not un-known that animal shelters become inundated with dogs and cats and smaller creatures over the festive season, whether through finding strays and abandoned animals or owners realising that they bit off a little more than they could chew. It came to our attention that Cheltenham Animal Shelter rely on both donations and volunteers throughout the year so the lovely staff there were more than welcoming in accommodating us for the day.

It didn’t take long before we realised the sheer amount of hard work that goes into caring for all of the animals, three-hundred and sixty-five days a year. The morning consisted of hosing down the dog kennels; revamping the catteries and clearing out the rabbit hutches (with the odd little cuddle in here and there.) The afternoon was even more energetic when we were each taken for a brisk walk by one of the many friendly dogs available to rehome from the shelter. The whole experience was rounded off with a session of cat cuddling before we had to, reluctantly, wave goodbye to our furry friends and head back to the office.

However, our day did not end there! Upon returning to the office full of festive cheer, we hand crafted and wrote a multitude of cards to be sent to the Amnesty International Write for Rights campaign and the charity helping you to ‘Post a Smile on a Sick Child’s Face’, Post Pals.

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day and we look forward to spending more time volunteering as a team in the future!
