Enabling the Transition to a Green Economy - new Government report

23rd August 2011

Social responsibility and sustainability has been high on the agenda for the Government in recent years.

In early August 2011, the Government really set out its stall in the terms of its vision for enabling the transition to the Green Economy through their new publication 'Enabling the Transition to a Green Economy: government and business working together'. This sets out what the transition to a green economy means for businesses.

It is the government's response to requests from the private sector for greater clarity on what government means by a 'green economy', the policies being put in place to achieve this and how they come together.

This is hugely significant because it will be the UK’s further and higher education sectors that lead that transition through skills training, research and student development.

Colleges and universities need to prepare for this role and Learning in Future Environments (LiFE) will help you embed social responsibility and sustainability throughout you institution.

LiFE focusses on four key priority areas:
◦Leadership, governance and management
◦Teaching, learning and research
◦Partnership and engagement
◦Estates and operations
