Fife College win Kingdom FM Award for Green Salon
5th September 2017
We would like to congratulate Fife College and Christine Laing for their win as Best Green Initiative at the Kingdom FM Local Hero Awards held at the Rothes Halls in Glenrothes.
Christine Laing, Sustainability Advisor for the College, was nominated for the award by the College’s Sustainability Committee, for the fantastic work she has personally carried out over recent years creating Scotland’s first Green College Salon.
The Green Salon, which boasts sustainable products and training in an environmentally friendly facility at the College’s Halbeath Campus in Dunfermline, is no stranger to winning awards. The College was highly commended by the Green Gown Awards for the salon in December 2015 and this year saw the eco-friendly facility recognised as a finalist at the Sunday Mail Young Scot Awards in May.
The glitzy Local Hero Awards ceremony was attended by over 200 guests who enjoyed a great night of entertainment while watching 14 very deserving awards presented to a range of local heroes.
Christine was delighted to have been awarded Best Green Initiative category at the event which was sponsored by the University of St Andrews.
Said Christine: “It was wonderful to pick up this great award at such a fantastic event attended by so many local heroes. It means a great deal to be recognised and the award will help me to further promote sustainability and to raise the profile of the importance of sustainability within learning environments and the workplace.”
At the event the College was also delighted to sponsor the ‘Home Grown Talent’ award which was won by talented Irish dance group, Celtic Moves.
Fife College launched the ‘Green Salon’ which includes fitted ventilation, in 2014. The College is the only college in Scotland with an eco-friendly salon - this enables them to offer clients traditional treatments in an eco-friendly learning environment which has major health and well-being benefits to both students and clients.
