How LiFE works

16th September 2011

Since we announced Learning in Future Environments (LiFE) we’ve been really happy to see the amount of interest that has been generated throughout the sector. A lot of people have signed up to our online webinars and we’ve been getting a lot of great feedback.

One thing people are keen to know is how LiFE will actually work within their institution.

We've put a lot of work into making a system that will be easy-to-use and bring real benefit to every area of your institution.

Learning From UtC

We've had a lot of feedback about the positive and negative sides of Universities that Count. The majority of the negative feedback we received was about how that tool worked. Too many people found it to be difficult to work with and difficult to manage.

We've designed LiFE from the ground up and we've partnered with a software company who are experts at designing online systems. LiFE is completely different from UtC and we’re continuing to work hard to make the system simple and intuitive to use.

Easy Management

One of our key criteria for designing LiFE was that it is easy to manage within an institution. We’ve made sure of this with several key features:

  • Multiple-Users: LiFE is designed to get people from across your institution involved in embedding sustainability and social responsibility.. You can add users at all levels of your institution, and assign them appropriate rights and privileges.

  • Task Management: LiFE makes it easy to manage your people (across all areas of your institution) and make sure all areas are completed on time. We have built a simple task manager to let you and your managers assign tasks, check progress and review submissions.

  • Internal Support: It’s important that everyone is able to get support and help as they are working to improve their performance. LiFE has an inbuilt community centre that connects you to everyone in your LiFE team, letting you share ideas and answer questions.

  • Connecting To The Wider Community: We know how important it is for you to get support as you look to embed LiFE into your institution. Our community centre can also connect you and your institution to the wider LiFE network, letting you get support from the EAUC, share ideas with other institutions and talk about best practices.

  • Available Anywhere: LiFE is based in the cloud, so it’s designed to be used anywhere that you are. You don’t need to worry about software support or installing any computer programmes - you just log onto the system through your web-browser and you’re ready to go!

  • Easy To Collect, Review And Submit: LiFE makes it easy to collect information from all areas of your institution and review it. The task manager will inform you when a user has submitted evidence for your review and you can easily track changes as they occur. If you decide to submit your performance for our independent accreditation, it’s as easy as clicking a button!

As you can see, LiFE has been designed to be easily integrated into any type of institution. We have worked hard to ensure that the process of using the system is as intuitive as possible, and we have built in significant management and reporting tools to ensure that you can always keep on track with how you're performing.
