International Green Gown Awards
2nd February 2015
We are excited to present the 2 UK institutions with their International Green Gown Awards. Hull College won the Social Responsibility Award for their inspiring project to transform derelict properties and Manchester Metropolitan University won the Student Engagement Award for their passionate student-led food network.
The International Green Gown Awards
were announced on 6th November at the ACTS Conference in Tasmania, Australia. Tertiary education institutions from Australasia, the United Kingdom, France, Switzerland, Belgium and Luxembourg went head to head to win coveted International Awards.
In December Iain Patton, EAUC CEO and Chris Thompson, Account Director Education for BT went to visit Hull College to present their Award. Gary Warke, Chief Executive and Shane Foster, Head of School – Construction and Green Energy Skills accepted the International Award. The day was a great success and provided Hull College the opportunity to share their inspiring East Hull Voids project where they transform run-down and derelict properties to provide affordable homes for the community. Iain and Chris got to meet the students who gain hands-on experience and work-based activities, which helps employability of the students and provides them with a direct-link to job opportunities.
Shane commented ‘Chris and Iain who presented the award were really impressed with the refurbished house down Middleburg St, we also showed them a property which we have just started to give them a feel for the work which our students undertake.’
