State of the sector survey

21st August 2025

For the first time since 2018, we’re gathering fresh insights to build a clear, up-to-date picture of the sustainability landscape in post-16 education across the UK and Ireland.

We'd like to understand how sustainability functions operate, what resources are in place, and where the main barriers and opportunities lie. The findings will be used to:

- Build a national dataset to strengthen sector representation
- Shape future support, funding, and guidance
- Ensure sustainability voices are heard in policy and strategy
- Support the business case for sustainability within institutions

To help us do, we invite individuals with a format remit for sustainability to complete our survey by Friday 19 September.

Everyone who completes the survey will be entered into a prize draw to win a free ticket to either the 2025 UK and Ireland Green Gown Awards Ceremony or the 2026 EAUC Annual Conference

If several people at your institution hold responsibility for sustainability, each person is encouraged to complete it.

The survey takes around 20-25 minutes and can be done on any device. A PDF version of the questions is also available so you can view the questions in advance.

The 2025 state of the sector survey and research is being delivered by EAUC in partnership with AoC, Colleges Scotland, Guild HE, Education Training Foundation, University and College Union and SOS-UK.
