Scottish Government Climate Change Bill - Consultation

14th July 2017

On the 30 June 2017 the Scottish Government launched its most recent consultation to introduce a new Climate Change Bill in relation to the Climate Change Act (Scotland) 2009.

The key changes being proposed include:

  • Greenhouse gas emission reduction target being changed from 80% reduction by 2050 to 90% reduction by 2050.
  • Targets will be based on actual emissions
  • Net-zero target to be set at a future date
These are ambitious targets which will impact the long term goals for Scotland as well as the FHE sector therefore we are looking to submit a sector response to the consultation due 22 September. The EAUC-Scotland office are looking to create a small task-group to gather views and opinions from the sector so please get in touch.  If your institution is looking submit a response on its own then please get in touch also.

More information on the consultation can be found here.

If you would like to be part of the discussions for forming the FHE sector response please contact the EAUC-Scotland team by Friday 21 July.
