Scottish Green Apple Awards recognise EAUC Scotland resources
13th November 2025
We are pleased to announce that EAUC Scotland has won two
Scottish Green Apple Environment Awards for excellence in environmental sustainability. The prizes were awarded for the
Commuting Survey Guide and Tool and the
Climate Risk Register Guide and Tool, resources produced as part of the Scottish Funding Council-funded
Step-Change for Sustainability programme.
Martin Boyle, Chief Operating Officer at the Scottish Funding Council, said:
“EAUC Scotland has been ambitious and energetic in driving forward the environmental sustainability programme for tertiary education.
“It’s fantastic that this has been recognised in the Scottish Green Apple Environment Awards, and we’re delighted that the two awards have been won for work done under the SFC-funded step-change for sustainability programme.”
The
Climate Risk Register Guide and Tool was developed, in collaboration with Adaptation Scotland, to support institutions in the early stages of their climate adaptation journeys. In the face of a rapidly changing climate, the templates within this resource help institutions take vital steps to protect their estates, staff and students – from assessing flood risk to designing an adaptation action plan.
With sector emissions from
staff and student commuting accounting for almost 90,000 tCO2e in 2023, there is a clear need to support universities and colleges to monitor, report and reduce these emissions. The
Commuting Survey Guide and Tool supports institutions to baseline and report on their staff and student commuting emissions.
Matthew Woodthorpe, Scotland Director at EAUC said:
“It is a great privilege for EAUC to have been awarded the two Scottish Green Apple Environment Awards for our sector climate risk and commuting resources. These resources are a direct result of strategic investment from SFC, collaboration across the sector in the sharing of effective practice and resource feedback, and dedication to the projects from the EAUC Scotland staff team.”
These awards follow on from the success of Scottish institutions at the
2025 UK and Ireland Green Gown Awards. At the ceremony in Birmingham,
Glasgow Kelvin College,
Fife College, the
University of St Andrews and the
University of Edinburgh took home top prizes, and
Queen Margaret University was highly commended.
We are proud to be part of a sector that has continued to innovate and collaborate for sustainability, despite significant financial pressures.
