The Effective Laboratory Conference

30th April 2012

Good Practice and Great Networking to Inform and Inspire

National Science Learning Centre, York, June 12-13

THIS CONFERENCE has been organised by S-Lab in association with the National HE-STEM Programme (and the University of Bradford Greening STEM Legacy project which it is funding) plus a number of partners and sponsors.

It will cover all aspects of laboratory design, operation and use, and provides great opportunities for networking and knowledge transfer (from over 50 presentations, including many from short-listed awards applications - see overleaf). Certificates of attendance will be available for CPD purposes. Five parallel streams provide separate specialist content for designers, educators, estates staff, managers and technicians, and purchasers.

Seven keynote speakers include:

• Wendell Brase, VC, University of California Irvine on their groundbreaking approach to lab design (including a two air changes per hour target for new life science labs in normal use).

• James Neil Crossan, Programme Director at AstraZeneca on developing world class pharmaceutical laboratories.

• James Naismith, Professor and Director of the new Bioscience Research Annex at the University of St Andrews, which is targeting Outstanding in the BREEAM building assessment scheme.
