University of East London and the launch of EURECA

16th July 2015

The University of East London (UEL) has launched a new project to reduce the amount of energy used by IT storage.

This project EURECA (Enabling information re-Use by linking clinical REsearch and Care) focuses on developing more sustainable procurement of data centres. It is supported by a consortium of eight partners across Europe and funded by the European Commission.

At the launch representatives including from government, European Commission officials and industry leaders were in attendance to hear about the environmental benefits of cutting energy use in data centres.

It is intended to hold a key place in UEL’s REF 2020 research assessment and is expected to have a significant impact on the academic world and the public sector.
