Wiltshire College achieves prestigious environmental standard award!

5th September 2012

EAUC Member, Wiltshire College, is about to be accredited to the international standard for environmental management, ISO 14001; one of the most widely recognised environmental standards for organisations in the world.

Very few colleges in England have achieved this demanding standard for the whole college and Wiltshire College is proud to be an accredited organisation. The auditor, singled out the staff he met for praise, saying: “The level of compliance from talking to staff, walking around the sites and auditing documentation is very high. The sites are all very clean and really well organised.”

The auditor continued: “There is clearly a lot of work that has gone into the managing of waste and reducing the impacts. Energy is going down and legal compliance has gone up since the auditor first visited Wiltshire College.”

Wiltshire College Principal, Di Dale, said: "Wiltshire College is delighted to be able to offer its students an opportunity to learn how real business advantages can be achieved through sound environmental management".

The ISO 140001 gives the College assurance that our systems are robust and effective. The College is now in a position to set more demanding targets and know that we have the ability to measure our progress accurately. It will be particularly useful in winning business contracts from large customers and Government Departments.

The award lasts for three years, but annual ‘surveillance’ visits will take place. The College will have to be able to show continual improvement throughout the process.
