This is one of the UK’s first University Training Schools (UTS) which is being developed in partnership between the DfE and the University of Birmingham allowing teachers access to the latest academic research and innovation as well as the opportunity to apply this in the classroom.  The university also provides high-quality initial teacher training (ITT) to new teachers together with continuous professional development for staff.

In keeping with the University’s aspirations towards sustainability and achieve a BREEAM rating of Very Good, the facility:

  • Includes LZC technology in the form of PV panels and a Combined Heat and Power (CHP) unit
  • Has large areas of exposed thermal mass to help limit internal temperatures and prevent overheating
  • Employs a mixed mode ventilation strategy for energy saving (natural ventilation) in milder ambient external temperature.
