Adaptation Part 1: Definitions, the process and getting started
13th Jul – 12th Jul 2016 12:00 – 13:00
This webinar is one of two adaptation presentations delivered by Adaptation Scotland. Part one will offer an introduction to climate change adaptation, from what it is (and isn’t), to a look at the policy context and what is involved in working through an adaptation process. Ideas for ‘getting started’ with adaptation will also be presented.
Why should I attend?
Having a good understanding of adaptation and how to adapt is a first step to taking action and increasing your resilience to climate change. This webinar will explain how the changes in climate such as increases in severe weather events, sea level rise and long term temperature increases are impacting Scotland. You will learn about the adaptation planning tools that you can use to help increase the resilience of your university or college, and hear from the University of St Andrews about their experience of beginning work on adaptation. This knowledge will help you to complete the adaptation section of the Public Bodies Climate Change Duties report.
Who is this webinar for?
This webinar is aimed at those new to adaptation who would like to understand the basics of what adaptation is. It is intended for staff from universities and colleges and may be particularly relevant to estate managers, operations and facilities managers, risk managers or environment or climate change officers.
What key learning outcomes will I take away from this webinar?
The webinar will increase your knowledge and understanding of the basics of climate change adaptation. After the webinar, you should be able to explain the difference between mitigation and adaptation, know what is involved in undertaking an adaptation process and what tasks you can do to get started.
