Net-works - making waste beautiful

Interface, Inc. and conservation charity the Zoological Society of London (ZSL) are celebrating the successful completion of a pilot project and the start of a commercial venture with both conservation and socio‐economic benefits. The innovative collaboration, called Net‐Works™, has been created to tackle the growing environmental problem of discarded fishing nets in some of the world’s poorest coastal communities. Proud Sponsors of Leadership on the Sustainability Exchange

Company Description

Interface is a global leader in the design and manufacture of sustainable modular flooring, suitable for any education environment.  Where we learn matters.  Designing by tile gives you creative and economic flexibility to design inspiring and engaging spaces to attract a new generation of students to study, work, live or socialise in.  Combine our extensive range of colours, textures and patterns to create the perfect space to stimulate the senses and the mind.

Sustainability Statement

Interface is recognised as a global leader in sustainability. In 1994 we were one of the first companies to publicly commit to sustainability, known as Mission Zero® to eliminate any negative impact on the environment by 2020.  Our manufacturing facility in the Netherlands now runs on 100% renewable energy (both gas and electric),  We also virtually use no water in our manufacturing processes and European facilities send no waste to landfill. Net-Works is the first step in creating a truly restorative loop in carpet tile production. In partnership with the Zoological Society of London (ZSL), we buy discarded fishing nets from poor communities, which are used to create new yarn. This means fewer ghost nets, less virgin materials and a new source of income for the communities.

Our History of Radical Innovation

In 1994 we began Mission Zero, our committment to become fully sustainable by 2020. To achieve this ambitious goal all of our raw material must be either 100% recycled or bio-based.

Since then we've taken many steps to increase the recycled content in our carpet and at the same time decrease our dependency on virgin raw materials. Read on to discover our latest steps on this journey.

Our latest Innovations

Recycled PVB - From windscreens to carpet

There are over one billion cars in the world, and an average of 5-6% gets a new window every year. Working with partners, we are turning a waste product into a useful component for our carpet tiles.
