Staffordshire University Green Wall Centre

Vertical greening systems are an important component of Green Infrastructure – possibly the only cost-effective approach to coping with some of the immense challenges resulting from high-density urban living such as urban heat island, air and noise pollution, lack of wildlife habitat, social problems (including mental health). At Staffordshire University, researchers have been studying green façades and different living wall systems in partnership with the main green wall manufacturers and installers. Taking advantage of this expertise on green walls and their environmental values (e.g. improve building thermal insulation by up to 50%, particulate pollution, climate mitigation, animal biodiversity, etc.), a Green Wall Centre has been set up within Staffordshire University to publicise the multiple values of green walls (environmental and economic), to offer consulting services and CPD courses, and to continue research on green walls.
