The Julian Study Centre (JSC) has raised the bar for sustainability on a campus which has a reputation for energy efficient award winning buildings, and is the first aiming for BREEAM 'Excellent' accreditation. At £6.9m, this sustainable, four-storey, 2000m² building includes traditional 280-seat and 80-seat Harvard style lecture theatres, seven seminar rooms, a cafe and break out spaces.
Using Passivhaus principles, photovoltaic panels and triple glazing have been installed, cross laminated timber wall panels incorporated into the frame, and floors divided by TermoDeck concrete, allowing for passive cooling of the building in summer and efficient heating in winter.
JSC is a favourite for conferences, helping the University to engage with the wider community and will act as a beacon to attract student to the University of East Anglia for years to come.
