Influencing key contracts as part of biodiversity plans

Your Biodiversity Plan should consider how you can engage with and influence key contracts to achieve your targets. You will need to form a close alliance with your procurement team and relevant contract managers. In particular, consider grounds maintenance contracts and contracts for new developments.

Grounds Maintenance Contracts

Outsourced contracts for maintaining grounds, should specify actions to safeguard and promote biodiversity. Performance criteria that relate to biodiversity targets and other environmental impacts should be included within contract specifications and their implementation should be monitored on an ongoing basis after the contract is awarded. Failure to meet biodiversity and environmental targets should be included among any penalty clauses.
