Presentation from 18th EAUC Annual Conference 2014

Stream: Partnership and Engagement
Competancy level: On the road

This session incorporates Green Gown Award excellence

Description:

Work led by a student intern helped Bristol win a 2013 Green Gown Highly Commended Award for work by academic and estates staff on Education for Sustainable Development. This brought together formal, informal curricular learning and subliminal learning based on the principle of action + reflection = learning.

This student driven approach is now being extended with support from Students' Green Fund. Enterprising students at Edinburgh share learnings about setting up a Circular Economy project. From a Move-Out "FreeShop" project which diverted 35 tonnes of departing students items from landfill over six years... to UK's first student-led company registered as a Cooperative. Join this workshop to hear about successful studentled collaborative ideas spanning learning and teaching AND extra-curricular activities.

Speakers:

Aine Kavanagh, Student Director of the SHRUB Coop, University of Edinburgh; Aisling Tierney, Postgraduate Student Intern, University of Bristol; Martin Wiles, Head of Sustainability, University of Bristol and David Somervell, Head of SRS Futures, University of Edinburgh
